A host of tennis legends feature among the WTA players with the best grass-court records, with Martina Navratilova top ahead of Serena Williams.
Steffi Graf, Chris Evert, Venus Williams and Justine Henin are some of the other icons who make the list.
Here, we look at the nine women with the highest singles win percentages on grass in WTA Tour history (with a minimum of 50 wins on the surface).
9. Kim Clijsters – 56-16 (77.77%)
Kim Clijsters won 77.77% of her matches on grass, making it her third-best surface in terms of win percentage behind hard and carpet courts, and ahead of clay.
The Belgian secured two grass-court titles from three finals and she was also a two-time semi-finalist at Wimbledon.
8. Jana Novotna – 79-21 (79%)
Jana Novotna compiled a 79-21 grass-court record and won both of her titles on the surface in 1998: at Eastbourne and Wimbledon.
7. Maria Sharapova – 83-21 (79.80%)
Maria Sharapova earned 83 victories from her 104 matches on grass and posted a 3-4 record in the seven title matches she played on the surface.
The Russian won her maiden Grand Slam title at Wimbledon in 2004, while she was also a two-time champion at the Birmingham Classic. Sharapova was a silver medallist at the 2012 London Olympics, with the tennis event played at the All England Club.
6. Venus Williams – 98-22 (81.66%)
Venus Williams holds a 98-22 career grass-court record, with her win rate of 81.66% her best percentage on any surface.
All five of the American’s titles on grass have come at Wimbledon, while she is also a four-time finalist at the All England Club.
5. Justine Henin – 53-11 (82.81%)
Justine Henin won 53 of the 64 matches she contested on grass and triumphed in three of the seven finals she reached on the surface.
The Belgian was a two-time runner-up at Wimbledon — which was the only Major title she did not win — in 2001 and 2006.
4. Steffi Graf – 85-15 (85%)
Steffi Graf amassed an 85-15 record from her 100 grass-court matches, which, somewhat surprisingly, makes the surface her worst in terms of win percentage.
The German reached all nine of her grass finals at Wimbledon, where she won seven titles — making it her most successful Grand Slam event.
3. Chris Evert – 242-35 (87.36%)
Chris Evert won 242 of the 277 matches she played on grass, with her 87.36% win percentage lower than her totals on clay, hard, and carpet courts
The American was a 17-time grass court-titlist and three-time Wimbledon winner, while she was also a runner-up on the surface on 12 occasions.
2. Serena Williams – 107-15 (87.70%)
Serena Williams compiled a 107-15 record from her 122 matches on grass, with her 87.7% win ratio her highest percentage on a single surface.
The American secured eight grass-court titles, including seven Wimbledon crowns, from the 12 finals she reached on the surface. Williams’s other grass triumph was the gold medal she won at the 2012 London Olympics.
1. Martina Navratilova – 307-39 (88.72%)
Martina Navratilova holds the Open Era record for grass-court match wins (307 of the 346 matches she played) and she also has the highest win percentage among women on the surface.
The Czech-American claimed 32 grass-court titles, with a record nine of these triumphs coming at Wimbledon, from a total of 41 finals
